Since you have so many pictures in back log you might consider digital scrapbooking, especially if your craft space isn't a dedicated craft space i.e. just a kitchen table. I really like Arc Soft. I played around with their application tonight and had a ball, and I had never tried digital scrapbooking before. If you do have a dedicated space for a craft room or even half a room, consider hybrid scrapbooking or regular scrapbooking; hybrid scrapbooking combines computer skill and paper scrapbooking, so you get the efficiency and creativity from both worlds. Paper scrapbooking is the traditional way, and best for addicted scrapbookers, because the creativity, texture choice, and dimensional appeal is so wide open. If can join a group of Close To My Heart customers, they consult, teach, and sell product. Stampin' Up! is the same kind of company. The BEST tip I can give you, is, if you were a scrapbooker but haven't scrapbooked in awhile, and short on space or supplies, look for kits that provide all that. I find the kits made by manufacturer Hot Off The Press, under the brand name Finished In A Flash, to be an excellent tool. When I hadn't scrapped in awhile, it was the pet kit that got me started. I did pets first, then a little bit of me, then my sister's wedding, now my sister's baby. Once you get started, I bet by the third or fourth theme it all starts clicking and it becomes effortless. One last suggestion, google your zip code and "scrapooking;" it's a good way to find a scrapbook boutique near you. These places hire instructors and hold weekly classes. When I'm stuck on layout ideas, boutiques, and Creative Keepsakes magazine and books get me unstuck. When I need supplies, I hit Michael's with their coupons, or attend scrapbook convention (http://www.scrapbookexpo.com/) where you can get albums for $5 and brads half off. Expo is awesome. I haven't met you so I think I covered every angle. Pick what scrapbook solution feels best and go for it! You have everything to gain!

I know EXACTLY what you mean!! I've been scrapbooking for a while but was so far behind that I thought about giving up! I started using this system - I can fit all my photos in and can be crafty if I want to (or not if I don't!) and I got ALL CAUGHT UP! I feel SO much better and ENJOY scrapbooking again! Here are the videos to see how it works (start with 1):

Oreo!
When I started scrapbooking, I was so overwhelmed! Gosh! The lady at the scrapbook store suggested I start with a really good kit that I could find extra papers and embellishments for-so I could follow the layouts and eventually add my own matching touches! I found a fabulous kit from SEI (shopsei.com) and got extra paper/embellishments and went to town! I decided to make a small album with a theme (a particular trip I took) and was able to tackle it before moving on to a great big book! I found this to be a great start since I had NO idea what I was getting myself into! Now I do all kinds of things on my own!
Good Luck and Have fun!
References :
The tips you have been given are all great tips!

Sometimes having a subject for your scrapbook is enough, but you can also divide your pictures by theme. Here's a few to get your imagination going:

http://www.papercraftcentral.com/scrapbook-theme-ideas.html

Did you know you can also make scrapbooks out of ordinary household items like paper bags? Then you could have lots of albums! Here's a link to one way of doing that:

http://www.papercraftcentral.com/paper-bag-album.html

Putting page protectors on your pages is also a good idea and here's a tip for putting them on easily:

However you decide to make your scrapbook(s), enjoy it/them.
References :
http:www.papercraftccentral.com

The one piece of advice that was given to me when I started was that there is no right or wrong way to scrapbook. This is something that should be fun and enjoyable! I would start by sorting your photos into groups: friends, family, vacations, special events, etc. Then pick out a few that are your favorites. You can take these pictures to a scrapbook store and look for some fun papers, or if you have some paper at home, you can get started right away. Try to think of a fun title for the page and then arrange your pictures on the paper. If you like it you can glue or tape them down. I suggest using re-positionable adhesive so that your photos can be moved later if you don't like the layout. You could try browsing websites or magazines for ideas on how to embellish or design a page. One of my favorites is www.creatingkeepsakes.com

Once you get started on a few pages the rest will just start to flow. Don't be afraid to jump from one category to another. Sometimes that is how inspiration strikes!

One more suggestion, make sure that you are using some type of page protector, most scrapbooks come with these, so that your pages will be preserved for years to come! Happy Scrapping!
