I am interested in purchasing an external hard drive. How portable are they and once connected how accessible?

I do digital scrapbooking. So I have tons of files and pictures. I have a desktop computer here at home and my husband, who lives out of the country has a laptop. I would like to be able to carry the hard drive back and forth so I can do my scrapbooking. Is this possible?

Western Digital is the way to go. If you want to be able to access your data from anywhere in the world I suggest a special drive. The Western Digital 500 GB World Edition is an amazing drive. A little more than most drives, but it can do something most of them can't. You hook this drive up to your Ethernet connection. Once all your data is on the drive you can access it from anywhere in the world. Your desktop, your husbands laptop, or even other PCs. Only you have access to it unless you give access to someone else. This way you don't have to lug a portable drive around the globe with you. Some are very portable, some are large. If your doing scrapbooking, maybe getting a flash drive with 4 gigs should be plenty of space and those are very portable and easy to use on the go.

I have a Western Digital Passport External, It's 80 gb. It gets the job done. It's very very small. The size of a passport lol ….. it's actually pretty good quality. During school i carry it around in my back pack and it gets some minor bumps every day and no problems so far! : )

Heres a 60 GB model which is the same thing i have just mines a little bit bigger! : )

external hard drives perform exactly like a local hard drive. its portability depends on the buyer… there are many different sizes (physical) and capacities to choose from..
