no software needed. there is a neat site that lets you come up with designs though
otherwise places like joanns and michaels have sections dedicated to scrapbooking.

If you want to start digital scrapbooking, I'd recommend you PhotoMix (http://www.photomix.com/). It is very easy to use (which is most suitable for novice users, such as you are). There are hundreds of free templates available for PhotoMix – http://www.photomix.com/templates/.
Tutorials – http://www.photomix.com/tutorials/ will be of a help.

Just get a scrap booking book which come in different sizes and are different prices
then all you need is glue, scissors and whatever else you want – there's many things you can use to decorate the pages with such as nice pens, embellishments, quilling, die cuts, peels offs, stickers etc
then all you do is choose a theme, such as a holiday or travel and get sticking!

I rarely use my computer for scrapbooking.
If you have Micheal's , JoAnn's, Cord camera or Archiver's by you they all offer beginner classes. Archiver's are free. Check out books at your library too.

first, choose your photos and then choose papers to complement the colours in photo, always use acid and lignin free products as others will destroy your photos. Just do what you want to as scrapbooking comes from the heart and everyone has their own way. Always remember that when you take photos to write down what, where and when as you forget as time goes by. If i use the computer it is only for Jounalling as my handwiting is not perfect. It is good to journal then the memories stay for ever. enjoy and remember it is addictive!!!! mini albums are a good place to start.
